I am definitely going to have to incorporate some of this research into my next "Why We're Divided article", which is about the decline of tradition/faith and the corresponding rise in secularim and political extremism. I think you have presented the first half of the problem beautifully. What I hope to expound on is the fact that there has been a great switch, where secular people increasingly see political matters in spiritual/apoctalyptic terms. This can only be a result of the great dechurching. Thanks for guiding my thoughts on this.
